Tuesday Top 5: Movies

We just put our Netflix account on hold.  Now that we're pretty much done watching all the Joss Whedon shows, we weren't excited about anything else on our queue.  It's full of movies that are probably great - but we just watch the same favorites over and over.  Some of our favorites we know so well we can almost quote them with the sound off (which my sister and I have done with While You Were Sleeping, the movie we watched every Christmas eve since it came out).  That being said, here are my current top 5 movies.  Don't forget to link up or comment with yours!!

Some Like It Hot
This movie is definitely a classic.  Quite possibly my favorite roll for Jack Lemon, I laugh every single time I see it.  The songs are great, the characters are hilarious, and who can't use a little dose of Marilyn Monroe?

The Princess Bride
My sister was a child of the '80s, so this movie was on all the time in our house.  It is oh-so quotable and great for every girl who never dreamed of being a princess.  And ok, I'll confess to having had a pretty big crush on Wesley for most of my young life.

Serenity
As I said, we're big ol' Whedon geeks in our house.  Firefly is quite possibly our #1 favorite tv show (all 14 episodes of it).  It's sci-fi and western all rolled into one (and Alan Tudyk is pretty yummy).  So of course the movie that wraps it all up is on my top list.  And I just might fantasize about someday being as cool as Summer Glau...

Chicken Run
I'm a huge fan of British claymation.  When Chicken Run came out, I ran to the theater to see it.  When it was released on vhs, I bought it right away.  When I finally saw The Great Escape I was shocked and crushed.  If you've never seen either, watch TGE before you see Chicken Run!!  Then get on your swing-dancin' shoes and round up your kids and get ready to laugh along with the raucous barnyard crew.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off
That's right - we liked this movie so much, we named our second son after it.  True story.  While I like to claim that we 'just thought Ferris was a pretty name,' in all honesty I'm pretty sure my husband is hoping that our Ferris turns out to be just as cool.  This iconic, feel-good teenage movie never fails to make me feel better when I'm feeling like playing hooky all day.

Today's Top 5 is about Actresses. Not, however, who you think is the best at acting, but rather who you most envy for some reason or another.  Are they great humanitarians?  Do they have amazing wardrobes?  Do they have the cutest dogs?  Most of mine, I'll confess, are on here because they're gorgeous and thin.  But they're good actresses, too!  Here they are, in no particular order:

Mila Kunis

She's gorgeous, she's thin, and she's a pretty decent actress.  She's had some fun movie rolls and dated some interesting personalities.  And she's got a great sense of style.  I wouldn't mind photographing like this.

Summer Glau

Just about the coolest girl in the 'verse.  She's the geek's dream date - beautiful, talented and she's starred in her fair share of sci-fi hits.  Not to mention, she's a very accomplished ballerina.

Monica Keena

If you ignore the fact that she's a men's magazine favorite (yes, I'm a prude), I do like the fact that she's beautiful and still has curves.  Great to know that you don't have to be a twig to make it in Hollywood.  And she's had some pretty fun roles as well (While You Were Sleeping is one of my all-time faves).

Naya Rivera

If I could sing like her, I'd be a happy gal.  I love her gravely voice and her singing style.  Again, I'm always thrilled when Santana gets a song on Glee.

Angela Kinsey

No, she doesn't play the most glamorous character on tv.  But it's to her credit that she pulls off the role so well, considering that she's a hilarious personality.  And she still manages to be a gorgeous momma despite their efforts to make her bland.  And I wouldn't mind being that itty bitty myself...

So - which celebs make your envy list and why?  Link up below or leave a comment!

Tuesday Top 5: Solo Artist (male)

I have a pretty eclectic taste in music.  I like most genres (though I'm a little picky about country).  But I definitely have some favorite - both die-hard and brand-new.  Here are my top 5:

Toby Mac
I loved him when he was a part of DC Talk and I love him even more now that he's gone solo.  I'll confess to drumming along on the steering wheel when this song came on the radio.  His music is inspiring and it's great for working out.  Positive beat, positive message.  It's exactly what the doctor ordered.  And he's not too hard on the eyes, either ;)

Paul McCartney

This man has never written a bad song.  In fact, one might wager, every song he's ever written is brilliant.  He's just as amazing now at 70 as he was as a part of The Beatles.  Even our toddlers adore him - and anyone who could write a song like Magneto and Titanium Man (on repeat at our house quiet often) has to be fun. I'll confess, George was my favorite of The Beatles, but only Paul makes the cut on my solo-artist list.

Kevin McHale

Easily my favorite voice in the entire cast of Glee, I know he isn't really a 'solo artist' perse - yet.  He did have a short stint in a boy-band (NLT) before he found prime-time fame.  And while he may not be my favorite character on the show, I'm always very happy when Artie gets a song of his own.  Plus, how adorable was his cameo in that Katie Perry video?  I have to say, I buy him a lot more in that role than, say, this video :p

Paul Simon

I'll be honest - I don't know a whole lot about Paul Simon.  I do know, however, that Simon and Garfunkle was incredible.  And I do know that I could listen to You Can Call Me Al all day. And that is enough to get him on the list.

Noah Weiss

If you like Jazz, then you'll love this guy!  He's cool, he's talented - and he just so happens to be the little brother of one of my oldest friends.   He writes and plays his own music - like this gorgeous piece, and this one. You can check out more of his music at his myspace page

So that's it for my top 5.  Listen and enjoy :)  And please don't forget to link up or comment below and let me know who you love!  I'm always looking for new artists to listen to.
